Description of HDPE Co-extruded White Pipe

PE100 Co-extruded White Pipes are designed with a highly reflective white coating on the exterior, co-extruded with the main pipe to form an integral part of the structure. This design makes them ideal for above-ground applications, including temporary water supply, by significantly reducing the impact of sunlight on the pipeline.

The reflective white material on the outer layer minimizes heat absorption. This material, extruded simultaneously with the black pipe wall, includes HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilisers) and titanium dioxide, enhancing UV resistance and extending the pipe’s lifespan.

Above-ground polyethylene pipes manage thermal energy through various mechanisms. Solar radiation heats the pipes, while re-radiation, convection, and conduction to the conveyed fluid help cool them. Factors such as time of day, cloud cover, latitude, altitude, season, and pipeline orientation, along with wind velocity, ambient temperature, flow rate, and the nature of the conveyed fluid, all influence the pipe wall temperature.

Extensive testing has shown that solar radiation has a significantly lesser effect on co-extruded white pipes compared to conventional black polyethylene pipes under the same conditions. Co-extruded white pipes meet or exceed the performance requirements of ISO 4427 and EN 12201 for pressure applications.

By limiting the surface temperature of above-ground polyethylene pipelines, thinner-walled pipes can be used, which would otherwise be necessary for a given application. Designing pipes to accommodate the most challenging environmental conditions, especially during summer, simplifies much of this complexity.

Independent laboratory tests have confirmed that co-extruded white HDPE pipes absorb less radiation, resulting in substantial temperature reductions compared to conventional black polyethylene pipes.
HDPE Co-extruded white pipes are designed to operate at lower temperatures, thereby minimizing the need for thermal rerating in above-ground pipeline systems.

They also offer excellent tensile strength and impact resistance, making them suitable for the complex and 7. variable geological conditions found in mining environments.
8. Corrosion Resistance: The chemical stability of HDPE material ensures it is highly resistant to corrosion from various chemicals, thereby preventing pipeline damage or leaks due to corrosion.
9. Ease of Construction: HDPE pipes are flexible and easy to bend, requiring no special equipment for installation. They can be quickly connected and repaired, which helps to reduce both construction time and costs.

To obtain pressure in psi, multiply bar by 14.5 (1 bar ≈ 14.5 psi).
